I didn’t think twice before stopping my car and start shooting, when I saw this,

Something so hard to see now a days with all the machinery around.

I was on my way to Lepakshi from Bangalore for a day tour and even though I shot a few hundred, this happened to be most satisfying one to me.

This is the first one that came to my mind seeing Cee’s photo challenge for this week.

When we were kids, summer vacation was the most sought after time of the year, with longer and sunny days, it was perfect for any out door activity.

I always try to use this time for my travels as it provides great opportunities for photography.

There is no dearth of secrets in nature which only gets revealed at the perfect time.

When it gets unveiled, it becomes a pleasant surprise for humans who looks at them with the eyes of a kid.

On a sunny summer evening my cousin and I were lucky to witness a small drama in front of our eyes, luckily I had my camera and there it is, for you guys….

This image is shared as part of the weekly photo challenge “Containers” and you could capture the real action getting unveiled in one of my previous post “There is a child in every one”.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Containers, Idangazhi

There are several traditional measuring utensils still popular in Kerala, one among them is Idangazhi which holds approximately one Kg of rice.

In the years gone by, rice was everything for Keralites, not just the source of food for all three meals, but it took the form of money to buy other things and pay for services rendered.

Rice for medicines and rice for fish… for all these measurements there existed smaller and bigger denominations of the measuring utensils too, called Uri, Nazhi, Idangazhi and Para.

Let me share an image, for the weekly challenge: Containers, where one Idangazhi rice was being given to a theyyam performer as a symbolic payment, though now a days everything is paid in paper cash.

Football Fever in Kerala

It’s fever time in Kerala,not the monsoon time fever, but football fever 🙂

With the World cup Football in full swing in Brazil, Keralites are having sleepless nights, literally.

Being in the opposite side of the globe where the real action happens, Keralites have to watch matches staying awake through out the night.

Even though vast majority of Indians doesn’t follow Football, it’s something special for the people of this small southern state of India.

There are fans for almost all major teams, but I could see the team with most number of fans or followers is Argentina, which is my favorite team too 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge: Contrast

As a second entry to this week’s photo challenge: contrast let me share an image of a brass oil lamp lit during a traditional temple festival in Kerala, India.

Sun was brightly shining but, this lamp has to be lit to drive away all the powers of evil or ignorance during the theyyam performance.
