It’s fever time in Kerala,not the monsoon time fever, but football fever 🙂
With the World cup Football in full swing in Brazil, Keralites are having sleepless nights, literally.
Being in the opposite side of the globe where the real action happens, Keralites have to watch matches staying awake through out the night.
Even though vast majority of Indians doesn’t follow Football, it’s something special for the people of this small southern state of India.
There are fans for almost all major teams, but I could see the team with most number of fans or followers is Argentina, which is my favorite team too 🙂
Let me share a few images taken near my home place which shows the passion of the people for this game.

How exciting! Thanks for sharing this! Here in the Netherlands we have the orange fever :)) and soon the Orange team will meet the Argentinian team on the semifinal.. Do you know that the current Dutch Queen is from Argentina? That will be something for the Queen and the King during the semifinal 😀

This match is going to be really interesting, as the Dutch team is playing superbly and the Argentina is peaking at the right time.

In India, it’s so sad to see that only Kerala, Goa and WB takes this beautiful game seriously and has got great fan following.
Now a days we could see some encouraging signs from North East as well.

In my personal opinion, it’s gonna be a spectacular and tight final game tomorrow, football fans are in for a real treat. In Kuala Lumpur, the fan base is more or less equally split between the two teams.

Your photos put some Desi tadka into the already charged World Cup fever. They show the love for the game in Kerala. I liked the photo where even tree is doped in the colors of Argentina. I remember seeing one photo of Kerala in some blog or newspaper, where in the poster, players like Messi and others are in the Indian outfit like Mundi or lungi. That exemplifies the craze for this game.

You are absolutely right Suyash, people are really crazy about this beautiful game here in Kerala.
Every night we could hear the bursting of crackers at midnight to celebrate the victory of one or the other teams, there are fans for most of the 32 teams played in this carnival.

Frankly speaking, Croatia had a great fan following in 2002 world cup, here in Kerala, after their stunning show in the previous edition led by Suker.
I think that was the best time of Croatian football, right?
Anyways, we had a great world cup, which ended with a sad note for me, being an Argentinean fan.

Sorry for your loss. You are right about Croatia’s best time. The fact that such a small.nation with the poorest natality (most of the players were born in war time) has qualified at all is a sign of great talent and I am proud of them.

The first world cup match I had watched was the 1990 final and so sad to see the same result after 24 years of waiting.
But still feels happy for the way they have fought their way through to the final.

Yahh.. It’s so much fun to read those lines they write on these flex boards! Sometimes I feel like if only they, the players get a chance to see all these!!! Roads, cars, buses..not a single object is left without a sign on it! That feel is everywhere! The way you word fight for your team!! I think this is much more in Calicut and malappuram than other districts. I’m a Brazil fan by the way! 😉 Happy to meet one from our rivals! 😀 😀
