WPC: ‘Quest’ for glory, Mangalassery Jalotsavam

Yet another Onam season and one more edition of ‘Jalotsavam’ or the ‘Vallamkali (Country boat race)’ in North Kerala…

I had been to here last time and shared my experiences here in my post…

Unlike it’s more famed cousins of south Kerala like Aranmula Vallamkali where the traditional snake boat race in the vast backwaters happens , it’s organised in Kuppam river by ‘Navodaya Club‘ with stunning natural settings…

Slowly people have started watching with great passion and sinking in the spirit of Vallamkali…

Local clubs have now become more competent and the races are fought with intensity.

Still visitors have an upper hand due to their experience and fine tuned techniques and the local teams are still pursuing their Quest for glory

This time, I watched most of the race from a nearby hilltop and we had yet another great evening …

WPC: Mirror, The Hidden Personality

Let me take this week’s theme “Mirror” literally…

Hidden Personality-1

I shot this photo some 7-8 years back at a really interesting place in South India, called Rameshwaram

The place is known for it’s unique landscape, historic and mythological significance.

Being a small island there is no shortage of seashells here and the local community makes a living by selling craft items made out of it.

But the place has a tragic past, once a flourishing tourist and pilgrimage town, it was razed to ground by a devastating cyclone and the associated tidal waves in 1964. Now, no one lives here …

Weekly Photo Challenge: Today Was a Good Day, at Mothakkara Village

It’s really hard to believe that I was away for five long months from this wonderful community.

And, finally the silence is broken and here I am, among you all great people…

I couldn’t stand any longer from sharing images and experiences from my beautiful Kerala.

A guided ‘day walk’ in one of the most scenic villages at the foothills of ‘Banasura Hills’ is the immediate trigger.

Please have a look at this image from, Mothakkara village as part of the ‘Weekly Photo Challenge‘.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Walls, Tanjavur Wall Painting

The Big Temple of Tanjavur is a world of it’s own…

We have to use superlative degree for anything that’s associated with this architectural marvel which turned 1000 years old in 2010.

I am restricting this post to something special, on the inside ‘Walls’ of this temple complex, the world renowned Tanjavur painting

Flavours of Fort Cochin: Part-2, The Reward

It was a day, the more I tried to get close to my destination, the farther I spun away…

But, by end of the day, I was rewarded with a handful of images worth all the effort…

Please check out “Flavours of Fort Cochin:Part-1” to see what I planned for the day and where I ended up with 🙂

FortKochi-0013As I got down from the Junkar, it was 3 pm and I had a couple more hours to explore Biennale.

But, as I started walking to the exhibition halls, I got lost in the color around and started capturing the flavors of this beautiful place…

FortKochi-0019FortKochi-0026FortKochi-0021FortKochi-0022FortKochi-0027FortKochi-0028 I walked through the streets and along the walk way near the beach… and finally reached my destination.

FortKochi-0023FortKochi-0024FortKochi-0025I was really overwhelmed with the variety and quality of the art and craft being showcased.

I had used up almost all my day wandering around… But no reason to get disappointed.

I got my reward for the exploits of a tiring day, a handful of images…

FortKochi-0020But I have decided to come back with my family to explore, Bienalle, hopefully “Only Biennale”  🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge: Rule of Thirds

There is something really interesting about rules in Photography.

You don’t have to learn these rules and apply them. Once you start taking visually appealing images by practice, you would have already followed them unknowingly, “The Rule of Thirds” is one of the best example.

Let me share a few images taken during my travels in South India (Mainly Karnataka and Kerala).

Weekly Photo Challege: Twinkle

The unexpected December rains made everything looks so fresh and vibrant…

A morning stroll in the garden was so refreshing and given an opportunity to take some images for this week’s challenge.

The attempt to capture the wonders of nature was a realization that nothing is even remotely comparable to the wonderful camera created by nature itself, our eyes 🙂
