      There is a story behind this image…

      The lady in the image work as a village guide in our sustainable tourism programme in the hilly region of Kerala,Wayanad.

      Though she had limited formal education and poor financial conditions, she works hard and try to share her immense local knowledge with the people she interacts, in English.

      Now a days I really feel lucky to work with people like these whose attitude towards life is truly commendable 🙂

        3. Once I moved back to Kerala from Bangalore, I met this interesting team who’s behind this company called “Kabani Community Tourism and Services”.

          Last one year, I am with this team helping farmers and village people develop their homestays by providing training, quality guideleines and help them in marketing.

          The organization, Kabani, is very well recognised for it’s work, and the brain behind it is, Mr. Sumesh Mangalassery.

          For me, this is something which really gives a lot of opportunities to travel, interact with people of all walks of life and at the same time use my IT management experience for something meaningful 🙂

    1. As always, you clearly said what I wanted to convey through this image, Yvette 🙂

      She is the face of our community tourism programme in a village in North Kerala.

      She works in paddy fields, in farms, prepares herbal oils, and when there are guests, mostly from Europe, takes them for a village walk, introducing them to the life, culture, agricultural practices and flora of the land.

      She is around sixty and supports her extended family, but I could never find anything negative in her words or expressions.

      In this image, she was talking about, one particular wild fruit which is used to make pickles, while we were walking with her.

      Meeting and working with people like these makes my current work truly rewarding…

  5. Very nice composition. I tried leaving a comment on the FRI visit but couldn’t- it reminded me of my own visit in 1998. Had only a film camera then and not good photo skills. Your photos of the place are spectacular. Thank you for sharing those.

      Dehra Dun was not part of our original plan during our visit to Utharakhand and when we had two spare days we decided to explore this beautiful place.

      Now, I feel that, the time spent in the FRI campus was one of the most rewarding part of our tour.

      I am so glad that, these images did bring back some of your fond memories.

      1. I think whenever a photographer captures the personality of the person, it inspires. And I think your current work is similar to what people strive for with a career ~ connecting to people and the real world around them, and it is something not too easy to obtain.

          It also, makes me more responsible, and I have to come up with results 🙂
